When Uncommon Gardens opened in the fall of 2001, owner Peggy Poore’s lifelong dream of owning a garden store came true. With naysayers abounding, she left behind a successful career in advertising, bought and rehabbed an abandoned, dilapidated gas station, and opened up a garden store just a couple of blocks from one of the largest retail garden centers in the country. The idea was, and still is, to offer a truly different kind of shopping experience. A real alternative garden store. From the actual atmosphere of the place—one that is decidedly fun, lively, and casual (and not afraid to have a personality)—to the beautiful and inspiring environment you stroll through, you know you’ve arrived at a different kind of place. The other important goal is to offer unusual and hard-to-find varieties of plants and shrubs, as well as a hipper, more stylish selection of garden décor and gifts. Everything is chosen with an eye for the less expected and out-of-the-ordinary. Here, you’ll find a refreshing change. You’ll find everything a gardener or garden lover is looking for. You’ll get helpful guidance from knowledgeable staff. And you’ll get it all in a place that we think you’ll find inviting and inspiring. |
